A French rack clock under glass dome on gilded base, Louis Seize, Alsace circa 1780.

A French rack clock under glass dome on gilded base, Louis Seize, Alsace circa 1780. An enamel dial with Roman numerals. The hands are finely pierced and made of gilt brass. Gilt lunette. The clock is not signed, given the design and quality of the clock, it is very likely that Antoine Mosbrucker à Saverne the maker is. The dial is set in a gilt brass ornament symbolizing love. On top is a winged Amor holding a pennant with the image of a heart, flowers and garlands, a quiver with arrows and a fire torch. The movement has a duration of thirty hours, a short pendulum in combination with verge escapement. The movement is driven by a standing barrel which is wound by pushing the clockwork along the rack. The clock will slowly move upwards while running. The rack is connected with a gilt wooden column with cannelures resting on an circular base. Diameter/ height : 15x28 cm. Price € 9.800,--. Literature: Tardy: 'Dictionnaire des Horlogers Français'.
