A splendid Dutch table clock with carillon, Jan Bernardus Vrijthoff, Hagae ca. 1770-80. 8-day movement with verge escapement, half-hour striking on two bells. Three spring barrels and three string and fusee. Clock has a cylinder musical mechanism with 6 melodies on 12 bells. Movement is signed on the dial Jan Bernardus Vrijthoff Hagae. Ebonised wooden case with gilt applications. Gilt dial with silver-plated chapter ring. Two smaller dials-subsidiary for setting: striking / not striking and playing / not playing. In the arch is a silvered ring and pointer for setting and indicating the melody. The listed melodies: Studens Mars, Wilhelmus v Nassau, Minuet Italiene, Mar, Minuet Locatelli, Kifs mijn Vrijer. In the arch has a polychrome painting and mechanism for the lunar phase. Aperture for date indication. This clock integrates various qualities. It connects visual and auditory elements with technical and cabinetmaker craftsmanship. To provide a cylinder with pins such that it can play a melody is very ingenious.
