A very fine quality Directoire mantel clock ‘l’Amérique’ signed J.S. Deverberie, Paris circa 1790.

No 089. A very fine quality Directoire mantel clock ‘l’Amérique’ signed J.S. Deverberie, circa 1790. Exceptional design and fine quality Directoire gilt and patinated bronze Pendule ‘Au bon Sauvage’, symbolising ‘l’Amérique, portraying a Negress with alligator at her feet. Signed on the white enamel dial J(ean) S(imon) Deverberie Cgnie, Rue des Fossé de Temple N 47. Eight day duration movement with anchor escapement, silk thread suspension, striking on the hour and half hour on a single bell, with outside count wheel. HWD 49x37x17 cm. Deverberie was exceptionally gifted and enjoyed great success as a bronze manufacturer as well as a marchand. He died 1824. Price on request.
